What is Reflexology?
How Reflexology Works
Reflexology is all about bringing balance, harmony and a sense of wellbeing to the body. It is a gentle, non-invasive therapy that aims to bring about a state of relaxation and help the body's own healing process.
Reflexology works in a similar way to acupressure and acupuncture. The technique involves applying gentle pressure to specific points, called reflexes, on your feet or hands. It is based on the theory that the systems and organs in the body are mirrored on the feet and hands.
By applying pressure to these reflex points it can stimulate circulation and nerve impulses, disperse accumulations of calcium and uric acid, and clear energy pathways in the body. By allowing the energy to flow freely again, this aims to restore balance to the body and promote natural healing.
Frequently Asked Questions

What will happen in my session?
Ahead of the first session you will be sent a consultation form to take a detailed medical history as well as lifestyle so that on your first appointment we can discuss any current issues you are facing, plus what you are hoping to gain from the session. We can then create a treatment plan that best suits your needs.
Foot Examination & Cleansing – You will need to remove your footwear and socks. Your feet will be gently examined as the condition of the feet say a lot about your general health. The feet are then cleansed with surgical spirit for hygiene purposes.
Sit Back & Relax – Recline comfortably on our padded adjustable couch, wrapped in the softest blanket relaxing to soothing sound bath music.
Reflexology Therapy – Using expert techniques, precise pressure is applied to reflex points on your feet to encourage natural healing and balance. It is deeply relaxing and many people drift off into a meditative state during treatment.
How Many Treatments will I Need?
This totally depends on what you are receiving treatment for. A one off session is a wonderful way to unwind and treat yourself. Monthly sessions are marvellous for managing stress and maintaining wellbeing.
Weekly/fortnightly sessions are preferable if working with a specific condition as effects of the treatment are cumulative. After the initial session, recommendations are given for further treatments. The best results are achieved from a course of 4-6 treatments over the same number of weeks.
For pregnancy treatments it is recommended at least a monthly session throughout the majority of your pregnancy and ideally weekly from 35 weeks to help prepare the body and mind for birth.

Are there any contraindications for reflexology?
Reflexology is safe for most people, but in some cases — such as recent surgery, certain medical conditions, or contagious illnesses — it may not be recommended. We'll discuss everything during your consultation to make sure your treatment is safe and supportive.
How much do treatments cost?
You can find treatment prices on the Book Online Section.
Where do you offer treatments?
We offer all reflexology treatment sessions at the Everybody Chiropractic Clinic in Witney. Times and location are detailed on the contact page. Home visits are not currently offered, however, in certain circumstances this can be arranged.
How soon can I start reflexology in pregnancy?
Reflexology can be safely enjoyed throughout pregnancy, but it is always best to consult with your midwife or doctor before starting sessions, especially during the first trimester.
Can I have reflexology in my first trimester?
Whilst there are risks throughout pregnancy with a higher likelihood of miscarriage in the first trimester, there is no evidence to suggest that reflexology can cause miscarriage. Reflexology can really help with the elevated anxiety and hormonal changes during this time. The training I have received means that I am happy to treat in the first trimester with signed consent from Mom but this will be agreed with the client on an individual basis. Always check with your healthcare provider before starting reflexology in early pregnancy.

Can Reflexology Induce Labour?
Reflexologists do not profess to be able to induce labour or turn a breech baby, these are medical procedures. Reflexology, however, is an excellent way to prepare the body and mind for labour, using techniques to encourage relaxation can be enough for labour to start, only when baby is ready to come. So any treatment that relieves stress and anxiety by activating the parasympathetic nervous system is only going to aid your body's natural processes. There is no better time to treat and prioritise yourself than before your little bundle of joy arrives.
Are there any contraindications for maternity reflexology?
While reflexology is safe for most pregnant women, it may not be suitable for those with high-risk pregnancies, pre-eclampsia, deep vein thrombosis, or certain medical conditions. Always consult with your midwife or doctor before booking a session.
